Abstract: For the past twenty years many teacher mentoring programs have been established in an effort to address the initiate and retain high quality teachers (Galvez-Hjornevik 1985). However, mentoring programs for beginning EFL teachers have been absent for a decade at the Faculty of ELT Education, ULIS, VNU-HN. Newly recruited teachers are assigned to conduct English lessons for TEFL majors on their own without any official guidance immediately after recruitment. Recent concerns over the performance, job satisfaction and turnover of young teachers have raised the urgent need for a mentoring program to provide beginning teachers with professional support in terms of instructional planning and teaching during their transformation from teacher graduates to career teachers. This study reports the practice of the current mentoring program for beginning EFL teachers in this context. It also explores the feedback of 16 participant mentors and mentees collected from the questionnaire and informal interviews. The research findings show a noticeable sense of satisfaction and achievement among both mentors and mentees, and their major concerns over the administrative aspects the program delivery. Based on the collected feedback, a number of recommendations are provided for the future improvement of the mentoring program and its application in other education contexts.
