Abstract: Though much has been written about input and its role in foreign language teaching, little attention has been paid to its appropriateness in developing the learner’s target language communicative competence. As an attempt towards a more workable input in second/foreign language acquisition, this research report discusses what the components of appropriate input are, why input should be appropriate and how appropriate input can be provided in foreign language teaching and learning based on a modified version of communicative competence (CC) which is labeled Interactive Model communicative competence incorporating real world competence, target language competence and communication strategy competence after a review of related literature.
